O munícipe sofreu acidente grave no km 21 em 2019. O motorista de um carro perdeu o controle do veículo e o atingiu na calçada. O agente de trânsito que estava passando pelo local, Nascimento, foi quem ajudou nos primeiros socorros.
Samuel perdeu a visão do olho esquerdo, uma perna e teve outras sequelas. No entanto, ele é extremamente grato por estar vivo.
